Opposition To War A Theme That Transcends Time

Opposition To War A Theme That Transcends Time

Vietnam War

The Vietnam War was a series of conflicts between communist forces and anti-communist forces. It was held and fought in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. Amongst the counties supporting the North Vietnamese (communist) were China and North Korea. Fighting for anti-communist government was South Vietnam, United States, Australia and New Zealand.

During the Vietnam War president John .F. Kennedy strongly tried to persuade his government to quit the Vietnam War. Many people agreed, and disagreed with his views. This was confirmed when massive riots started in the U.S and many of its allies in the Vietnam War. This theme of opposition to war transcends time in many cultures and countries.

Some evident examples of this are the current war (in Iraq and Afghanistan) has had many riots and disagreement. Gandhi saved India from British rule without hurting anyone (peaceful protest).

Pacifism is also found in many modern song showing how embed it is in our culture to seek out peace. Examples are Bobby Darrin, Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel.

Poem about trait with paragraph and image

Endurance

Endurance accompanies you to the end where your destiny lays

With his full grown beard and timeless creases of skin

He stays in his state of statue until you discover where your destiny lays.

Endurance has been reflected throughout history in many unique tales and diverse cultures. The structure and significance of the word endurance, has different opinions to the cultures of the world. For instance in ancient Greece, when the Persian first tried to capture Greece, the Greeks sent a herald to Athens with a journey of approximately 42 kilometers. When he finally reached Athens he relayed his message but eventually died of exhaustion, this is the origin of the marathon. This myth or story is not historically confirmed but the idea did make the Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin who made the first marathon in Athens 1896 happen. This slowly became a worldwide event and is now one of the most important Olympic games events. Another occurrence of endurance in history is Gandhi. Gandhi had to endure the torment of the British when they had rule over India. Gandhi had a goal of freeing India of the British supremacy without fighting or hurting anyone. This was triggered from Gandhi seeing a lot of racial discrimination and violence in South Africa and his home country of India. He continued to toil for the release of India from England during the 2nd world war. Finally he freed India in 1947 but unfortunately died the year after, after being assassinated by a Hindu extremist. These examples clearly show that the trait of endurance has lived on through the history of the human race.

Santiago trait essay, with essential question paragraph and image

Learning to rely on your destiny and dreams

“But my heart is agitated, the boy said. It has its dreams, it gets emotional, and it’s become passionate over a woman of the desert. It asks things of me and it keeps me from sleeping many nights, when I’m thinking about her (page-123).” This quote from the novel “The Alchemist” portrays what Santiago, a Sheppard boy who abandons his life in Southern Spain to follow his heart and his dreams, wants and his intentions.” Santiago has dreams of treasure near the pyramids, so he decides to go in seek of it. On his adventure he learns the soul of the world with the aid of many splendid characters and his heart. Santiago is a dreamer who goes on an adventure to discover his destiny with courageous, cultured and emotional qualities.

To lead him to Egypt, Santiago has constantly relied on courage throughout the novel. When Santiago told the Oasis Chiefs of the omen of the hawks, they told him that if he were wrong about the interpretation of the omen, Santiago would be killed. While Santiago was scared he was also courageous and did not panic or run. Right after Santiago has told the Oasis Chiefs about the omen of the hawks, Santiago is confronted by the Alchemist. At first the Alchemist is portrayed as a dangerous and mysterious man waving a sword over Santiago’s head. Yet through Santiago’s courage he is able to speak the truth and survive this certain situation. “He needs three days, answered the alchemist. He is going to transform himself into the wind, just to demonstrate his powers. If he can’t do so, we humbly offer you our lives, for the honour of your tribe (page-134).” This quote shows a lot of courageous qualities such as: the fact that Santiago is willing to face death (although he was forced into this situation) for his beliefs and knowledge. Despite Santiago being courageous he also learns from his new environment. Only through Santiago’s bravery and courage did he make it to Egypt to collect his treasure.

While exploring the world in search of his treasure, Santiago becomes very cultured. When Santiago first meets the Englishmen, the Englishmen thought him a young Arab boy. This is to be expected though, because Santiago has now been in Arabia for over a year and learning from the exotic culture. Another statement indicating Santiago being cultured, “In less than a year, he would have doubled his flock, and he would be able to do business with the Arabs, because he was now able to speak their strange language (page-53).” This proves that Santiago can speak a foreign language and communicate from them fluently. Santiago also is still learning from other cultures, as this quote shows “But before she fled, she advised the boy that he had better not try to converse with women who dressed in black, because they were married women. He should respect tradition (page-87).” From learning all of these new ways of life and cultural heritage Santiago also becomes a little attached to his new world and becomes quite emotional. Santiago went on a journey to find his treasure, but accidently learned about many different and unique cultures to his success.

Although Santiago was in search of his personal legend he would have moments when he would be very emotional and distressed. This would put him mentally and physically more father away from his treasure, but also let him realize how to avoid these situations and how to control his emotion to his benefit. When Santiago has his money stolen in a foreign land without his sheep, he starts to cry and become very emotional. This quote displays that Santiago gets emotional when he locates the pyramids: ”Be aware of the place where you are brought to tears. That’s where I am, and that’s where your treasure is (page-152).” During Santiago’s journey he is always learning, but when he finally forgives and truly understands his heart he becomes touched and extremely emotional. Santiago has always had emotion in his life but this journey changes his views on his own emotions and the knowledge gained thought this experience.

The opening paragraph signified that Santiago is learning while in search of his destiny and will become very knowledgeable when he truly understands his personal legend. Courage, culture and emotion are all qualities the main character, Santiago learns while seeking out his treasure and destiny. Due to Santiago’s certain qualities and traits, he was able to both succeed in acquiring his treasure (destiny), and learning from the people and places around him. Santiago became a man and a much stronger individual when he had accomplished his destiny. However, everyone has a destiny, but they always push it aside for the other things that are important in their lives. This is because of the world’s greatest lie, that everybody believes they will achieve his or her destiny regardless; they assume that this is a given fate. If everyone attempted to fulfill their own personal legend they would almost certainly succeed because the whole universe wants them to be successful and achieve their own special destiny, but it won’t happen without any significant effort on his or her behalf.

Essential Question Paragraph (with image)

One of the qualities I personally believe I have is patience, which allows me to be both a successful communicator and friend to others. Patience hides me from what I may be really feeling, for instance in can cover boredom, frustration or jealously. This is affective to my gain and my associate for it can allow my friend to keep a positive image of me, and slowly leads my day away from these dismal feelings. Although this is such a useful tool in the cache of ways to lead your own personality and destiny, it also bears the price of occasionally letting you become too patient and leasing your destiny out of control. In the end I think, without patience I would find many circumstances in my everyday life that would be near impossible for me to thrive in. This is why I observe that this is a must have trait for me to be successful in my future destiny.

About my picture

I think this picture represents me because it simulates my mood and personality (silly and fun). I also happen to like the Teletubbies plot for each episode (something wrong happens and they fix it by the end of the episode). This design also is in my life, every day I stumble on a problem and I do my best to solve it. Also I enjoy watching a little bit of TV when I have a spot of free time or if I am bored.
